Does the Mini CECT KA08 Work With T Mobile and AT&T? I'll Tell You

The other day, I received an email wanting me to confirm that the new mini iPhone clone, (the KA08), works on the T Mobile network. I also get emails like this asking about compatibility for AT&T, Rogers, and other GSM carriers.  I'll address this compatibility in the following article.

The CECT KA08 Works On All GSM Carriers:  This phone is compatible and will work on networks that are classified as GSM.  This means that they use sim cards.  Examples of these include T Mobile, AT&T, Rogers, Fido, and Cingular, to name just a few.  The pre paid or pay as you go versions of these carriers work also, including Go Phone and T Mobile's flex plan.  This allows for the same user experience without the commitment of a contract.

But, CDMA networks will not work with this phone.  Examples are of these are Verizon, Nextel, Virgin Mobile, Boost, Metro PCS, etc. When I tell people this, they often ask me if they can get the settings for these CDMA options.  The answer to that you could, but this still wouldn't make these carriers work.  These networks don't use sim cards and therefore aren't going to be compatible, no matter which settings you input into the phone.

Setting Up The CECT KA08 On Carriers Like T Mobile and AT&T:  Speaking of inputting things into the phone, most times, you can just insert the card into the phone (and two cards will work, as this is a dual sim phone) and be fine as far as talk and texting go.  The phone should read the information as long as the cards are installed correctly.  If this isn't happening, make sure that you have the applicable slots active in the phone's settings.

The Internet can be another story though.  Some sellers will sell these phones already programmed or set for one carrier and this is the easiest way to go.  But, if this is not your reality, it is not at all hard to fix this.  You'll just need to go in and see what your data, GPRS, WAP, and MMS settings are pointed toward. Often, you'll see that this is some carrier that you have never heard of or one that you aren't using.  In this case, you will just have to hit edit at the bottom of the screen and put in the correct information for the carrier that you are using, (including port and proxy numbers.)  (And, if the phone is already set to your carrier, check the port and proxy settings because typos here are common. Even one number being off can keep you from being able to surf the web.)

If you are not sure of these settings, you can often get them directly from your carrier or there are manuals and software that you can get online, usually for less than . There is no reason to let this process scare or intimidate you.  Even if you are not a technical person, if you can follow step by step directions, you should be completely up and running in only a few minutes.

When people tell me that they can't get a CECT KA08 to work with AT&T or T Mobile, I know that there must be a sim inserted correctly, some settings that are wrong, or an inactivated card somewhere.  Because this phone does work with these GSM carriers and the process should not be at all difficult.
