What is an I9 Phone Good For?

The other day, my son had a few kids over and they got into some of the iPhone clones I keep around for review and use.  One of the kids picked up the CECT i9 and sarcastically asked "what is this phone good for, anyway? It's not an iPhone."  I can't deny that it's not, but I asked the kid if he wanted to see how the phone works.  When I showed it to him, it was clear that he had very low expectations for the phone and was pretty surprised that he actually liked it.  Even after I got finished showing it to him, he continued to play around with it.  And, I know that he basically said what many people think. He's just lucky enough to have the honesty of a child.  Many people want to know what is the attraction of the clones since they aren't the "real thing."  I'll admit upfront that I like these phones for their price, but I also feel that there is a lot to like other than the cost, (especially the i9) which I will go over in this article.

Tons Of Standard Features Without Being Tied Down:  Most of the clones have about every desirable feature that you could want in a phone and the i9 is no different.  It allows for surfing the net, emailing and texting, listening to MP3s and watching MP4 video, using Bluetooth, listening to the radio, reading e books, and taking photos or video.

The 9 is a bit unique because it is a bit smaller, sleeker, and faster (holding up to 8GB) and it has java support.  This means you're free to download third party software and games, which wasn't available previously.  Also, this one has the "shake and tilt" feature which was originally pretty unique to the clones.  When you want to switch songs, wallpaper, video, etc., you only have to shake the phone.  When you want to see a full or wide screen, you only have to tilt it.

It's true that many phones have many of these features.  But, not all phones will allow you to chose your own carrier, have two carriers, or switch back and forth between them.  These phones do not require a contract and have dual sim slots.  So, you could theoretically have a cheap unlimited talk / text plan and a prepaid or low cost sim / plan for data and web browsing.  Or, you could chose to have two separate phone numbers for whatever reason.

Low Price: Of course, when most people think of these phones, they think of their low cost.  And, that's rightly a factor.  You can get an i9 with a lot of memory (sometimes as much as 8GB) for not too much over 0.  This is attractive in a few ways.  First, the price is cheap. Second, if you lose the phone, it's not as much of a big deal as it would be if you had splurged for the real deal.  Finally, we all know that the "newest technology" is a moving target.  New phones come out every day.  So, if something better comes out in clone world, (or somewhere else), it's really no sweat to move on since you didn't pay much anyway and you can just insert the sim card you used for your next upgrade.
